This project involved the construction of a modern production facility for Qingdao Fugao, a joint venture between Japanese and Korean automotive parts manufacturers. The client's core requirement was a large metal sheds workshop—specifically a large, robust, and optimally laid-out structure to house heavy-duty stamping presses, precision assembly lines, and efficient logistics areas, with built-in flexibility for future expansion. The plant needed to reflect the high standards for precision, quality, and long-term durability inherent in Japanese and Korean manufacturing systems.


Key Project Challenges

Integration of International Standards: As a joint venture, the plant design had to comply with Chinese steel structure codes while reconciling the Japanese partner's focus on meticulous detail with the Korean partner's emphasis on cost and efficiency. Aligning on material standards, welding procedures, and inspection protocols was a critical challenge.

Stability of Large Metal Sheds Workshops: The exceptionally wide 40-meter clear span demanded extreme precision in the load-bearing capacity, deflection control, and overall wind and snow resistance of the steel beams—a critical factor for such large metal sheds workshops—requiring sophisticated engineering and specialized joint design.

Ensuring a stable supply of high-quality steel in large quantities and coordinating the sequenced delivery and on-site storage of numerous pre-fabricated components were paramount to maintaining the project schedule.

Solution Highlights

Customized Large-Span Design: To achieve the 40-meter span, we employed tapered H-shaped steel beams optimized using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software. This ensured structural integrity while reducing dead weight and material costs.

End-to-End Modularity & Prefabrication: All components, from primary columns and beams to roof purlins and wall panel systems, were factory-pre fabricated and assembled on-site with high-strength bolts. This approach significantly enhanced construction accuracy (with tolerances within millimeters) and minimized weather-dependent on-site work time.



Lean Construction & Process Optimization: Lean construction principles were integrated into the design, incorporating optimized internal logistics routes, natural lighting, ventilation, and pre-embedded equipment foundations. This ensured the plant was operational for high-efficiency production immediately upon handover, perfectly aligning with the client's auto parts manufacturing workflow.
